Decode fixed, progressive and mystery bounties, equal-seat satellites and structure sheets so that the same chips do not imply the same prize.

Separate the game from the prize structure

“No-limit hold’em” identifies how cards and betting work. “Bounty,” “satellite,” “freezeout” and “turbo” describe other parts of an event. The same poker game can use very different entry and prize arrangements. A vlog title is often too short to explain them all.

Start with three questions: can a player enter again, what counts as winning a prize, and when does the event end? Then read the event’s own structure. The descriptions below are common patterns, not promises about every organizer.

A bounty is not another stack of chips

Three ways an elimination award can work
FormatWhat a viewer should notice
Fixed bountyAn eligible elimination earns a stated award separate from ordinary finishing-position prizes.
Progressive knockoutPart of the eliminated player’s bounty is paid now; another part increases the winner’s own bounty.
Mystery bountyAn eligible elimination during the bounty stage earns an award whose amount is not known in advance.

The exact split, eligibility and start of the bounty stage vary. In particular, do not assume that every elimination in a mystery event earns a draw, or that the largest advertised bounty is what someone is likely to win.

Coverage matters because a player who cannot take all an opponent’s chips generally cannot eliminate that opponent on the hand. Multiway side pots complicate who wins an elimination award; compare the actual starting stacks, pot eligibility and event rules rather than just the largest bet.

A satellite can finish without one player owning every chip

In an equal-seat satellite, several players can win the same entry into a later event. This changes what survival near the final seat is worth. Do not transfer an ordinary winner-takes-the-most payout explanation unchanged to a satellite.

Read a structure sheet like a viewer

A fictional event listing, not a real tournament
Printed itemWhat it tells you
20,000 starting chipsThe initial stack, not the cash value of the buy-in.
100/200 blinds; 200 big-blind anteThe stated initial pot is 500 when all forced bets are fully posted: 100 + 200 + 200.
30-minute levelsHow long these levels run, not how long every hand lasts.
One re-entry before level 7A limited new attempt under the event’s rules, not unlimited extra chips.
Day 1 ends after level 12A stage boundary. It does not, by itself, say players have reached a payout.

Turbo describes faster blind progression relative to that organizer’s regular events. Starting stack, blind increments and level length all affect the pace. “Deep stack” alone does not tell you how deep a player will be three levels later. Six-max describes the table size, not a special hand ranking.

A $120 progressive bounty is split 50/50. Did the winner immediately receive $120?

No. In this stated example, $60 is paid now and $60 increases the winner’s bounty. Track received money separately from a bounty attached to the player.

Does the shortest survivor necessarily win a smaller prize in an equal-seat satellite?

No. The stated prize can be the same ticket for every qualifier. That is why the actual payout structure matters.

The title says “mystery bounty.” Does an early Day 1 elimination always earn a bounty?

No. Some events activate bounties only at a later stage. The format label alone is not enough to identify an eligible elimination.
